Has your flight been delayed or cancelled?
When Does EU261 Apply?
Flights departing from an EU airport (regardless of the airline’s nationality)
Flights arriving at an EU airport if operated by an EU-based airline
Passengers must have a confirmed reservation and checked in on time
Which Situations Qualify for Compensation?
You may be entitled to up to €600 compensation if you experienced:
Flight Delay: Your arrival at your final destination was delayed by 3 hours or more
Flight Cancellation: Your flight was cancelled less than 14 days before departure
Denied Boarding: You were denied boarding (e.g., overbooking) against your will
What Counts as “Denied Boarding”?
Denied boarding occurs not just if you arrive late at the gate, but against your wishes (ex: the flight is overbooked). If you voluntarily give up your seat in exchange for compensation or perks, you usually cannot claim EU261 compensation, but you can negotiate with the airline.
Can I Still Claim After Several Years?
Yes! In most EU countries, you generally have up to 6 years to submit a claim for compensation, so if the flight problem happened in the last 6 years, you may still be eligible.
Useful Tips
File early: The process can take time. Start as soon as possible.
Be persistent: Airlines sometimes initially resist paying out.
Check eligibility: Some circumstances, such as extraordinary weather, don't count.
